A very busy 24 hrs. for CHC crews - Smyrna and surrounding fire districts

The CHC has been busy over the last 24 hours. On Thursday 3/31/16 at approx. 1719 hrs. the station was dispatched for a small mulch fire in the area of 600 Jimmy Drive in the south side of the district. Engine 4 and 44-0 handled the small mulch fire and returned to quarters. Lieutenant Brian Ferguson had command. Just prior to midnight at 2344 hrs Station 44, Ambulance 64, KM-6 and Trooper 4 were dispatched to the area of 2952 Smyrna Leispic Road for a MVC with vehicle reported overturned. 44-4 made the response under the command of 44-15(B. Jarrell), followed shortly by Rescue 44 and 44-0. While responding Kent Center advised 44-15 that there was a member on scene relating a single patient that was unconscious and possibly trapped. 44-4 arrived to find a single pick-up truck off the road in a field that had rolled over and came to rest on its wheels. EMS arrived on scene and began patient assessment and care. 44-15 advised Kent Center that Trooper 4 will be used. Crews utilized the Hurst spreaders to pop open the door and gain access to the patient, extrication was complete at 2356 hrs. Trooper 4 transported one patient to the CER Trauma Center. All 44 units cleared and returned to quarters. Fire Chief Brian Jarrell had Smyrna Leipsic command. While units were operating on the MVC on Smyrna Leipsic Rd., Kent Center advised 44-15 that there was a second MVC in the district. 44-15 requested the station be re-dispatched. At 0001 hrs Station 44 along with B64 from the previous MVC were alerted for the MVC with injuries at South Dupont Blvd. and Brenford Rd. 44-0 under the command of 44-20 made the response from the original MVC along with Engine 44-3 from the station. 44-0 arrived on scene to find a 2 vehicle MVC that were involved in a T-bone type MVC. 44-20 advised Kent Center he had one with minor entrapment, and advised Engine 3 that they were going to need to put their Hurst combination tool in service for a door pop. Engine 3 arrived on scene and began extrication, and the door was quickly opened to gain access to the patient. 44-20 requested 2 additional BLS units which brought A43 and A53 to the scene. Command cancelled A53 and advised Kent Center that A43 was obtaining a refusal and would transport the other patient. R44 responded cold from the original scene and assisted with clean up with its brooms and sta-dri. 44-20 placed the situation under control at 0110 hrs. All units cleared and returned to quarters. Lieutenant David Hufford Jr. had DuPont Blvd. command. On April 1st at 0224 hrs Ladder Company 44, Engine Company 54, Rescue Company 51, Light and Air 51 were dispatched as the second alarm assignment to assist Station 43 which was on scene of a fully involved house fire in the unit block of New St. in Cheswold. Ladder Company 44 was instructed to stage at Station 43. Just after going arrival to Station 43, Engine 44-3 was instructed to lay a 5" supply line from the hydrant that was in the area of the fire station to the hydrant just east of the scene where 43-4 was at. Now with all the second alarm assignments being dedicated to fire ground operations New Street Command requested a Third Alarm. Crews from Ladder 44 and Engine 44-3 assisted with fire suppression. The fire was placed under control at 0350 hrs. Ladder Company 44 was back in quarters at 0512 hrs. Deputy Chief Tucker Dempsey(43-16) had New St. command, Lt. Dave Hufford Jr. was in charge of 44 units on scene. At 1446 hrs Ladder and Tanker Company 44 and Engine 45 were alerted to assist New Castle County Station 26(Townsend) with a working residential structure fire in the 1000 block of Grears Corner Rd. in Townsend. Engine 44-3 made the response with a crew of 6 under the command of 44-19 followed by Tanker 44 and Ladder 44. Units arrived on scene and the crew from Engine 44-3 was split and part of the crew assisted Tower 27 with roof operations and the other half checking the garage with the crew from 45-3 for extension. Crews from both Ladder 44 and Engine 44 also assisted with overhaul in the main fire room in the Charlie/Delta side of the structure. While on scene Tanker 44 supplied Tanker 26. Units operated until cleared by command. All 44 units were in quarters at 1630 hrs. Career staff supervisor FF/EMT Junior Lightcap had Grears Corner Rd. command. Captain Eric Neeld was in charge of all 44 units operating on scene.
