Assist Station 45 with a 4-Alarm Woods Fire - 884 Saw Mill Road, Clayton

At 1315 Hrs, Station 44 was alerted to assist Station 45 with a large woods fire in the area of 884 Saw Mill Road. Brush 44-0 and Engine/Rescue 44-4 made the response. 44-0 was instructed by Command 45 to try to make access to the fire from a neighboring property. 44-0 arrived on scene to find a large woods fire with approximately 4 acres on fire and Station 45 units actively trying to create a fire break. 44-0 made access to the neighboring farm but was unable to make access to the fire from the east so 44-0 joined Station 45 units at the original address. 44-0's crew under the command of 44-19 pulled the 200ft booster line and brought the 200ft of forestry line into the woods. 44-4 arrived on scene and was instructed to bring all the wildland tools off of the Engine and bring them back to the staging area. Tanker 44 and Ranger 44 were also requested and both made the response. Crews from 44-0 made it approximately 150 yards back into the woods before progress was stopped by wetland areas. Crews were pulled out and were placed into another area. Tanker 44 arrived on scene and supplied Tanker 26 which was supplying the fire ground operations. 44-8 with Ranger 44 arrived on scene and Ranger 44 was placed in service assisting crews in the woods. Crews operated for approximately 4 hours before the scene was placed under control. Crews continued to work until released by Command. At the height of the alarm there were 23 companies from 2 states and 5 counties operating at the scene. 44 Units sesponding: 44-0,44-4,Tanker 44, 44-8 with Ranger 44 Captain Alex Carrow had Saw Mill Command. Captain Eric Neeld was OIC of 44 units. Units responding included Stations From Kent County DE, New Castle County, Kent County Maryland, Queen Annes County, Caroline County, Trooper 4 and the Delaware Dept. of Forestry.
