Thursday, June 10, 2021
On May 27th probationary members Denise and Gabriel King graduated from the New Castle County Fire Academy Class #7.
The New Castle County Fire Academy was established to streamline required training for volunteer firefighters within Delaware preparing them to serve their community with a more efficient timeline. The NCCFA classes were held every Tuesday, Thursday and every other weekend for the past 4 months totaling 224 hours. After completing the academy, they now hold DSFS Certificates for Basic Firefighting Skills, Structural Firefighting, Hazardous Materials Response, Vehicle Rescue, Water Rescue, and American Heart Association First Aid and CPR. The completion of these classes allows the graduates to challenge the Pro Board Accreditation for NFPA 1001 and obtain their Firefighter I & II certification.
During the commencement ceremony Denise and Gabriel were recognized for being the first ever mother and son duo to attend and graduate from the academy. Denise was also selected to open the ceremony by leading her recruit class in saying their class mantra and motto.
The Officers and Members of the CHC are very proud of Denise and Gabe, and all the hard work and dedication they put towards this class and the fire department. Continue to never stop learning or training. Congratulations again!!!
