House fire with heavy fire showing - 2768 Big Oak Rd.

At 1900 hours Sta 44 & 53 units were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 2700 Block of Big Oak Rd. E44-2 under command of Capt. Isaac Hankins responded at 1903, followed shortly by T44, E44-3, R44, & 53 units. While responding Kent Center advised 44-2 that 45-31 was on-scene reporting heavy fire showing from the rear. At this time Kent Center also advised Sta. 45 had several crews in station, 44-18 advised to have 45 start with an engine and rescue. 44-2 arrived to find a 2 story single family residence with heavy fire showing from the rear. The crew from 44-2 pulled one 1 3/4 handline, and hand stretched about 300 feet of 5" hose to the end of the drive. While crews were beginning suppression E-3 & T-44 arrived. T44 picked up the supply, and the crew from E-3 pulled a second handline to the rear, and assisted with suppresion and searches. The crew from R44, 53-6, and 53-2 assisted with ventilating the roof, and beginning overhaul. Capt. Hankins placed the scene under control at 2134. Sta. 45 units that were staging on Woodland Beach Rd. were returned. The house sustained heavy fire damage to the second floor bedrooms, bathroom, and closets, with some extension into the roof and attic. 44 & 53 crews remained on the scene for about two hours performing overhaul and assisting FM 13 with lighting. All units were back in the station at 2321. OIC was Capt. Isaac J. Hankins.
