Fatal MVC with rollover - Sunnyside Rd. & W. Cook Ave.

At 0118 the CHC was dispatched for a reported MVC with rollover at Dupont Hwy & Smyrna Leipsic Rd. E44-4 under command of 44-15, responded within minutes. While en-route 44-31 advised the MVC was on Sunnyside Rd. in the a/o W. Cook Ave. Upon arrival crews found a Ford F-250 p/u off the roadway that had rolled over. 44-15 was advised by Clayton PD the driver was trapped and with severe injuries. The crew found the driver partially ejected from the truck with severe head injuries. A Hurst combo tool was quickly placed into service and the drivers door was quickly opened removing the pt. It was then determined that the pt had injuries incompatible with life, and was pronounced 10-91 by KM-6. Crews from R-44 finished securing the vehicle, and putting down sta-dri on the leaking fluids. The scene was then placed under control by 44-15. E44-4 remained on scene to assist DSP & SPD until arrival of a light unit from DelDot. Sta. 44 units were in service for 2 hrs and 26 minutes, and 31 members responded. Chief John L. Embert was OIC.

The accident is currently being investigated by DSP. According to the News Journal the accident was the result of a police pursuit, and during the pursuit the truck went through a fence and then struck a Smyrna PD car. The officer was not injured in that collision. The police cruiser sustained moderate right side and rear end damage.
