Friday, November 6, 2009
At 1434 Sta. 44 units along with Amb. 64, KM-6, Trooper 4 and Smyrna PD were dispatched for a reported MVC with entrapment at Rt. 13 & Smyrna Leipsic Rd. E44-4 under command of Chief Embert responded quickly, and while en-route was advised SPD was on-scene reporting no entrapment, and the MVC was west of 13 in the a/o Sunnyside Rd. On arrival crews found a tractor trailer on its side in the roadway, with its entire load of soybeans spilled across the road and into the yard of CHC Past Chief Brooks Keen. Prior to arrival of emergency units the driver was able to get out of the truck through the windshield. While EMS crews evaluated the truck driver, crews from E44-4 & R44 checked the truck for any fuel leaks, and began to assist clearing the beans from the road. The truck was loaded with approximately 1000 bushels of soybeans en-route to the grainery. Crews remained on scene and assisted with clean-up for a while, and all 44 units were back in the station at 1517. The driver of the truck suffered very minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital. Crews were in service for 43 minutes, and 43 members responded. OIC was Chief John L. Embert III
