Thursday, April 15, 2010
At 1844 Sta. 44 units, along with Amb. 64, KM-6, and T-4 were dispatched for a reported MVC with a rollover in the area of Flemings Landing Rd. & Haypoint Landing Rd. Both E44-4 and R-44 were quickly out the door due to crews being at the station for a function. While units were responding Kent Center advised that bystanders saw the driver flee the scene. R-44 arrived first to find the accident on Haypoint Landing Rd east of Shorts Landing Rd. Crews found a single vehicle MVC with a pick-up on its roof into the woods. DSP confirmed that the driver had already fled the scene, but was unsure about any passengers. Due to the extent of the damage to the pick-up, crews were unable to see into the cab area or underneath the truck. 44-15 advised crews to place the hi-low jacks into service in order to raise the truck enough to see inside and under it. Crews from 44-4, R-44, and 44-10 stabilized the truck with cribbing, and then utilized the jacks to raise the vehicle enough to find no one trapped underneath or inside. 44-15 then placed the scene under control and all units cleared PD only. Sta. 44 units were in service for 42 minutes, and 41 members responded to the incident.
Units responding: E44-4, R-44, 44-10, B-64, KM-6, T-4, & DSP.
