On Saturday, September 15, 2012, the Citizens' Hose Company No. 1 brought home our 32nd Governor's Cup from the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association Conference Parade. This award is given to the fire department voted on as Best Appearing Fire Company Marching Unit with Music. After weeks of hard work cleaning trucks, preparing uniforms, marching practice, etc., the company's efforts were rewarded. Other trophies included Best Appearing Aerial, Best Appearing Tanker, Best Appearing Rescue, Best Appearing Pumper, 2nd Best Appearing Antique, Best Appearing Color Guard, Best Appearing Band, and Best Appearing Jr. Miss Fire Prevention. The Officers and Members of the department want to thank everyone for all their hard work and sacrifice in getting everything ready. Thanks to the husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, children and friends for all of your help and support. Also a congratulations to our neighboring companies for their awards, and the Smyrna High School "Regiment of Red" Marching Band for their 2nd place trophy in the school band division. We also want to thank our standby crews from Sudlersville, Chestertown, and Hacks Point for protecting our local district while we were gone for the day. Without you, we wouldn't be able to do this every year. "Don't make excuses. Make things happen. Make changes. Then make history."
