MVC with entrapment - Rt. 13 NB @ Paddock Rd., North Smyrna

At 0643 the CHC along with Ambulance 64 & KM-6 were dispatched for a reported MVC at the North Smyrna Wawa. E44-4 under command of 44-16(Hankins) responded within minutes, followed shortly by R44 & 44-0. While en-route units were advised that NCCPD was on-scene reporting one subject trapped and unconscious. Upon arrival crews found a 2 vehicle MVC, with one car off the roadway and into the Wawa parking lot. The car had collided with several parked cars. The driver was now alert, but still trapped. While EMS crews began pt care, the crew from 44-4 & R44 stabilized the vehicle, secured the battery, and began extrication. Crews used the Hurst tools to remove the drivers door to gain access to the driver. Once extrication was complete crews assisted EMS units with removing and packaging the pt for transport to KGH. The driver was extricated within 6 minutes of arrival of crews. The driver was taken to KGH by 64 & KM-6, and the driver of the other vehicle refused transport by EMS. The other 2 vehicles that sustained damage were parked in Wawa parking lot, and empty at the time they were struck. Cres remained on scene to assist with clean-up for several minutes after removing the pt. 44-16 placed the scene under control at 0810, and all units were back in quarters at 0827.
The CHC had 23 members respond and in service for 39 minutes. OIC was 44-16, 1st Asst. Chief Isaac J. Hankins.
