44-15 arrives to find smoke showing - 196 Shorty Lane, Smyrna Landing

At 0456 the CHC was dispatched for a house at the above address. 44-15(Hankins) responded to the scene POV since the house was visible from his own residence. 44-15 arrived and found smoke showing and the residents advising there was fire in the rear of the house. Upon assessment he found a heavy smoke condition throughout the house, with fire in the walls and ceiling of an addition off the back of the house. The homeowner was trying to put out the fire with buckets of water prior to arrival of the first units. E4-2 under command of FF Blanchfield arrived and was advised to pull a 1 1/2" line to the rear and bring handtools to the rear to start pulling the walls and ceiling. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and began to overhaul the walls and ceiling. The crew from E44-3 placed a ladder to the roof to check for extension, secured the utilities, and assisted with overhaul. The crew from R44 assisted with ventilation, and checking for extension with a TIC. Sta. 45 was requested for Q-45 and for manpower. Crews checked throughout the house for extension, but none was found past the original room of origin. The crew from Q45 assisted with setting up a fan to help remove the smoke from the residence. 44-15 placed the scene under control at 0529. Crews remained on scene to continue with overhaul, and assist FM 13 with lighting for his investigation. Crews were clear the scene and back in quarters at 0631.
The CHC had 34 members in service for 1 hour and 40 minutes, and OIC was Chief Isaac J. Hankins.
