MCI-Multiple vehicle MVC with entrapment - S. DuPont Parkway @ Duck Creek Rd.
Saturday, March 16, 2013
At 0942 the CHC along with multiple BLS, ALS, & Lifenet were dispatched for a reported MVC/not alert. E44-2 under command of 44-23(Neeld) responded within minutes, shortly followed by R44 & 44-0. While units were en-route 44-19(Rutledge) arrived on scene and found a multiple vehicle MVC with possibly 6 pts, and one pt trapped. Upon arrival 44-2 found conditions as reported by 44-19, along with ALS and BLS already on scene beginning pt care and pt triage. The crew from 44-2 immediately began setting up for extrication of the trapped driver of the black pick-up with 2 ALS pts in it. Upon arrival of R44, the crew was split. Half the crew assisted with stabilization and extrication of the pt in the black pick-up, and the other half assisted EMS units with pt care and immobilization of the other multiple pts. The crew from 44-0 also assisted with helping with pt care. The extrication crews quickly removed the drivers side rear door and B-post to gain access to the driver. The driver was not able to be easily removed from the vehicle. Extrication was complete at 0959. Both occupants of this vehicle were taken to KGH with ALS on-board. The remaining 6 pts were transported to both KGH or Smyrna/Clayton ER as BLS only. 44-23 placed the scene under control at 1011, and crews remained on scene to assist with extensive clean-up of the roadway. All 44 units were in quarters in 1037.
A total of 8 pts were transported from the 4 vehicle MVC by a total of 5 BLS units.
CHC units were in service for 55 minutes, and 45 members responded to assist. OIC was Lt. Eric Neeld.
