House fire with Heavy Smoke Showing - 494 Eagles Nest Landing Rd.
Wednesday, June 12, 2013
At 1205 the CHC, along with Amb. 64, was dispatched to 494 Eagles Nest Landing Road for a possible working house fire. E44-4 under command of 44-23(Neeld) went responding within minutes and was advised by Kent Center that the RP was a neighbor calling advising he sees flames and smoke coming from the house next door. While 44-4 was responding, 44-35 went on scene advising smoke showing and confirming a working alarm. Shortly after 44-4 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke showing from the single story ranch style home, 44-23 assumed command. The crew from E4 was split, 3 personal pulled a 1 ½” to the rear door and made an aggressive attack on the fire that they located in the dining room area. Fire was already venting out of the rear dining room window. While the initial crew was attacking the fire, the rest of the crew from E4 performed a primary search and pulled 5 inch supply line to the end of the drive way for T44. Engine 44-3 and Tanker 44 arrived on scene. The crew from E3 pulled a second line from E4 and made access also from the rear door. T44 supplied E4. 44-23 advised Kent Center that all visible fire had been knocked down and crews were checking for extension. A one engine cover was requested to cover station 44. Station 53(Leipsic) was dispatched and after 53-2 went en route to station 44, they were redirected to the scene for manpower due to the high humidity, heat, and to assist with overhaul. The cover up was then replaced by Sta. 43(Cheswold) and Sta. 45(Clayton) was also put on dual response for all alarms in district. The scene was then placed under control and crews remained on scene for about another hour performing overhaul, and assisting FM-28. All units eventually cleared the scene and 44-23 turned the scene over to FM-28.
Units on scene: E44-4, E44-3, T44, R44, B-64, 53-2, & FM 28. 43-4 provided the cover to Sta. 44.
The CHC had 39 members respond to assist, and units were in service for 2 hrs, & 22 minutes. OIC was Lt. Eric Neeld.
