Thursday, May 30, 2013
At 0552, the CHC along with Amb. 64, KM 5 & 6, and T-4 were dispatched to a reported MVC with entrapment in the area of Helen’s Sausage House. Sta. 26 units were also dispatched by Fireboard due to the MVC being at the district lines, and both dispatch centers receiving conflicting calls about the location. E44-4 under command of 44-15(Hankins) responded quickly, followed shortly by R44, & 44-0. While en-route 26-8B arrived on scene and confirmed heavy entrapment, and the MVC to be in Sta. 44’s local. E44-4 arrived and found a two vehicle MVC in the median area, with one vehicle sustaining heavy driver’s side damage and intrusion. 44-15 assumed command. BLS arrived just prior to E4 and ALS and advised the pt was heavily entrapped and a possible DOA. While the crew from E4 set up for extrication, KM6 evaluated the pt and then contacted medical control and pronounced the pt DOPA. The crews from E4 stood by on any extrication at the request of DSP. The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured and refused treatment. 44-15 placed the scene under control holding 44-4 and returned all other units. TMC was contacted in reference to multiple arrow boards. E4 remained on scene for a couple hours to assist DSP. Once DSP was done with investigating the incident, the crew from E4 extricated the driver from the vehicle. Extrication was complete and the pt was TOT the ME. All 44 units cleared and the scene was TOT DSP & TMC.
Units responding: E44-4, R44, 44-0, R26, 26-1, B-26, 26-8B, B-64, KM 5, KM 6, T-4, DSP, ME’s Office, & TMC
