Townhouse fire - 611 Providence Dr., Governor's Place Townhomes
Wednesday, June 5, 2013
At 1929 the CHC was dispatched to the 600 building of the Governor’s Place Apartments for a reported townhouse fire. E44-2 under command of 44-20(Hansen) responded within minutes, followed shortly after by L44, E44-3 and R44. Upon arrival 44-2 found nothing evident from the 60 building. The crew went to the RP’s apartment at 601 Providence Dr. and spoke to the RP who had a light smoke condition in her house and reported hearing an alarm sounding from an apartment on the opposite side of the building. Crews then began checking neighboring apartments for the source. E3 and L44 were directed to the opposite side of the building to check those apartments. Crews cleared 2 apartments on the other side and after getting no answer at another forced entry. Upon forcing entry the crew from E3 found a heavy smoke condition inside. 44-20 advised Kent Center of smoke condition and a fire in the apartment and the alarm was upgraded. E2 relocated to the other side along with R44. E4 and 44-10 also responded to assist with manpower. After E3’s crew forced entry a 1½” handline was advanced in and a small fire was found in the living room area extending up the stairway. The fire was quickly knocked down and a quick search was done by the crew from L44, and crews from 44-2 and R44 assisted with ventilation. L44 was placed in service and crews went on the roof to check for any extension. After some brief overhaul and checking for extension the fire was found to be contained to the original fire room. The fire was contained to remodeling and construction debris in the living room area stored by the stairs. 44-20 placed the scene under control holding E2, E3, & L44 to assist with using positive pressure ventilation to clear out several neighboring apartments. FM 19 responded to assist with investigation. All 44 units cleared the scene and turned it over to FM 19 and SPD.
Units responding: E44-2, L44, E44-3, R44, E44-4, 44-10, FM 19, SPD, and Town of Smyrna Electric Dept.
The CHC had 52 members respond to assist and units were in service for 1 hour and 56 minutes. OIC was Lt. Jason Hansen.
