Engine & Tanker Company Assist - Rt. 1 A/O Pine Tree Road

At 1230, as crews were returning from 2 different alarms in district, the CHC was requested for an Engine Company assist to Station 26 (Townsend) for a tractor trailer full of hay on fire on Rt. 1 in the area of Pine Tree Road. 44-4 made the response with 44-19 (Capt. Rutledge)to find a step deck loaded with hay bales on fire with Townsend units working on extinguishing it. The crew from 44-4 helped with trying to reach the spot of the fire on the front of the trailer. Command 26 called back to the station and asked for 44-0 and Tanker 44 to also make the responded to the scene, both units made the response minutes later. Command 26 requested DelDot to respond with one of their wheel excavators and for Delaware Forestry Service to respond with a bull dozer to help spread the hay out. Crew stayed on scene extinguishing the fire for approximately 4 hours.
