Toys for Tots charity football game - Smyrna High School
Saturday, November 29, 2014
Under a cloudy cold day, Clayton Fire/Police and Smyrna Fire/Police came together for the 7th annual Toys for Tots Charity Football Game. The game ended up in a tie but the real winners were the kids who are going to have a little brighter Christmas due to the generosity of a lot of people. The game went back and fourth after the Clayton team scored on their opening drive. At halftime the score was 7-6 in favor of the Clayton team. With Clayton ahead 28 to 20 in the closing minutes, the Smyrna team drove down the field and scored with 20 seconds left in the game making it 28-26. The Smyrna team scored on a 2 point conversion try to tie up the game. Clayton got the ball back with 20 seconds left and drove to the Smyrna 30 yard line as time ran out.
The point of the game was to collect toys for the US Marines Toys for Tots. Almost 2 full pickup truck loads of toys and $200 were collected. The money will go towards the Smyrna/Clayton Police Departments "Shop with a Cop" program.
Both teams would like to thank everyone that came out to brave the cold and those who donated to our cause.
We would like to again thank our sponsors; RWM Embroidery , i3a LLC, Data Storage Solutions, D by D Printing, Wolfe's Steakhouse, Danielle's Training Center and especially the Smyrna School District and Smyrna High School for the use of the field again.
