Serious MVC with subject trapped - Rt.13 SB @ Duck Creek Rd.

At 1022 while responding to a EMS call in Smyrna, C-26(Townsend BLS) came across a serious MVC that had just happened. The crew on C-26 called Kent Center to advise of the serious MVC with a subject trapped and P1 injuries. Kent Center immediately dispatched CHC units along with ALS and T-4 for the MVC. At the same time 64 with half of KM6,which was also responding back to Smyrna from CER, pulled up on the MVC and began assisting C-26. E44-4 under command of 44-21(E. Neeld) responded within 2 minutes followed shortly by E44-3. While en-route C-26 advised 44-4 that they had extricated the pt with their portable hydraulic tool and were packaging the pt for transport. Upon arrival 44 units found a 2 vehicle MVC in which a car had struck the rear of a dump truck. The car sustained heavy damage and the driver suffered critical injuries. The pt was already loaded into 64 at this time and transport was then initiated to KGH with a priority 1 patient. The driver of the dump truck refused transport on scene. The crews from 44-4 & 44-3 secured the vehicles, and cleaned up the roadway. All 44 units cleared the scene, turning it over to DSP for investigation. The driver of the car succumbed to his injuries as a result of the accident. Fire Police remained on-scene to help DSP with traffic. Units responding: E44-4, E44-3, 64, C-26, KM6B, KM9A, DSP, T-4, DelDot, 44 & 45 Fire Police.
