Tanker and Engine assist 45 on Control Burn - Longridge Rd, Clayton
Saturday, January 9, 2016
Early Saturday morning, CHC assisted Sta. 45(Clayton) with a Tanker and Engine on a planned control burn of a house just west of Clayton limits on Longridge Rd. Members from both companies pulled 3 lines off of 45-3 and placed them at points around the house to protect 2 surrounding structures and power lines from heat during the burn. At 8am the house was lit and the younger members were able to see how a fire developed from a small flame to flash over conditions. Also during this time they was shown how to read the smoke. By reading the smoke they can tell a lot about a fire, such as where its at and where it may be in the near future, and what kind of fire it is. Once they saw that, they got to practice hose handling with the 2 smaller handlines and the portable master stream til the house was completely on the ground and there was no more threat to the surrounding structures. Once everything was deemed safe the hoses and equipment was all put away and all units cleared around 11am.
