Friday, June 18, 2010
At 1034 Sta. 44 units along with Amb. 64, KM 5&9, and T-4 were dispatched for an MVC with a rollover involving an ambulance. E44-4 under command of 44-15 responded followed shortly by R44 & 44-10. Upon arrival crews found a Hart to Heart ambulance on its side in the median strip, with a second ambulance sitting on the shoulder. EMS crews were already assessing the two BLS providers from the ambulance, both of which who had minor injuries and wished to refuse treatment. Both pt initially refused treatment, but the EMT passenger changed his mind and was transported to CER by A-64 for further evaluation. Both EMT's and the pt in the second ambulance were not injured. 44-15 placed the scene under control and all 44 units were back in quarters at 1059. 28 members were in service for 25 minutes, and the OIC was Chief Tate Coulbourne.
According to one of the members of the Hart to Heart crew, the ambulances were transporting a pt to CER non-emergency when the accident occured. While entering a construction zone the first ambulance had to brake suddenly, and the second one was not able to slow down in time. It swerved to miss the back of the first unit, just barely clipping the L rear corner losing control and rolling over in the median strip, landing on its side. The crew crawled out of the unit through the winshield and were ambulatory on arrival of units.
