MVC with entrapment and fatality - Rt.13 NB @ Paddock Rd., Smyrna, DE

At 0153 CHC units along with Amb. 64 & KM6 were dispatched for a reported MVC with entrapment. E44-4 under command of 44-16(Willis) responded within minutes, shortly followed by R44 & 44-10. While en-route Kent Center advised units that one pt was reported to be trapped and possibly DOA. Upon arrival crews found a tractor trailer had struck a mid-sized sedan on the passengers side trapping the passenger who was deemed P4 by ALS, and the driver was out and walking around. Crews assisted with stabilizing the vehicle, and assisting EMS crews with pt care. KM6 pronounced the passenger deceased on scene, and transported the P1 driver to KGH. The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt and refused medical treatment. 44-16 placed the scene under control and all units were cleared by DSP. DSP advising that fire department services were not needed due to extensive investigation. All units cleared at 0236 and responded to a residential fire alarm activation. Then at 0605 CHC units were dispatched to respond back to the scene to assist DSP with manpower to remove the pt from the vehicle. Rescue 44 responded back and crews popped the drivers door and helped remove the pt from the vehicle. Crews cleared at 0636. 1st Asst. Chief Isaac Willis had command of both incidents. MVC: E44-4, R44, 44-10, KM6, A-64, DSP, & DelDot. 32 members responded and were in service for 43 minutes. Manpower: R44 & 44-8. 18 members responded and were in service for 37 minutes.
