Convention 2015 - Dover, Delaware
Saturday, September 19, 2015

On Saturday Sept. 19th the CHC participated in the annual DVFA Parade in Dover. The CHC began the day with a breakfast at the station cooked by the company auxiliary for the clean-up crews and the cover-up crews from Sudlersville & Chestertown FD's. The crews then loaded up on the trucks and headed down to the Home Depot parking lot to put the final details and touches on the trucks for pre-judging. Crews worked diligently to get the final touches on Old Mom, 44-0, R44, L44, & T44 before the drove next door for pre-judging. Once pre-judging was done crews went over to the line-up area and relaxed until it was time for the parade. Prior to the parade the company and band were led in a prayer by member Thomas Bowers, and were given a final pep-talk by Chief Coulbourne. Once the parade stepped off the membership and band took to the streets with the pride and tradition of the CHC we have all been taught to instill in ourselves since joining. Once the parade was over crews hung out and relaxed on The Green for the awards. The membership waited eagerly to find out the results of all their hard work. Once all the awards were given out the CHC walked away with 9 awards including the 35th Governor's Cup in the company's history. When crews got back into town crews carried on the tradition of the CHC by riding from Lake Como back to the station on the apparatus being led by the stand-by crews. Crews held up and showed off the Governor's Cup and trophies to everyone on the streets and outside of the station. Members then all continued on the annual tradition of marching through town and stopping at the bar down the street from the station. (Now Sheridan Pub, but was numerous other names previously over the years.) Here Chief Coulbourne spoke to everyone to thank them for thier hard work and dedication. Then Past Chief Biff Newnam spoke to everyone and told the story of the "rolling of the keg" and how it started. From then the keg was rolled down the street after being started by all the wives, girlfriends, and significant others of the officers and members. Members then went back to the station celebrated the win into the night. The CHC would like to thank everyone who helped and contributed to another win, especially all the members, band members, auxiliary members, cover-up crews from Sudlersville & Chestertown, Carol T & Carol Ann Morris for transporting Old Mom, and many many others. Awards won: Governor's Cup for Best Appearing Company with 35+ men in line, Best Appearing Non-school Band, Best Appearing Color Gaurd, Best Appearing Jr. Miss Fire Prevention (Lacey Neeld), Best Appearing Brush Truck 44-0, Best Appearing Rescue Truck R-44, Best Appearing Tanker T-44, and 2nd Best Appearing Ladder L44.
