MVC Rollover with Entrapment - Route 1 North Bound South of Exit 114

At 2152 hrs, Station 44 along with Ambulance 64,Km6 and Trooper 4 were dispatched to the area of Exit 114 for a single vehicle rollover. 44-2 made the quick response with a crew in station under the command of 44-16 (D.Neeld)followed shortly by Rescue 44 and 44-0. While Responding, Kent Center advised units that There was a Past Chief on scene reporting on car off the road and on its roof with unknown injuries. Engine 44-2 arrived on scene find conditions as reported. The Vehicle was off the road, down an embankment and in the woods. 44-16 established command. 44-0 and Rescue 44 arrived on scene. Crews found a single patient partially ejected. Patient was still in the vehicle upside down, and trapped by his seatbelt. ALS reported a priority 1 patient with multiple lower body injuries. Firefighters made patient contact who was still alert and advising he was having trouble breathing. Crews used chain saws and sawzall's to make access by cutting trees and vehicle parts out of the way. A Back Board was used to support the patients weight. The Seat Belt was cut and the patient was removed from the vehicle in the prone position. Extrication was complete at 2215 hrs. Once out of the vehicle a second backboard was used to log roll the patient over to the supine position. Patient was transported by Trooper 4 to Christiana Trauma Center. Scene was placed under control. All Station 44 units cleared and the scene was turned over to DSP and TMC. Units Responding: 44-2,Rescue 44, 44-0, A&D 64, KM6, Trooper 4, Station 44 Fire Police. 1st Asst Chief Dave Neeld had Route 1 Command.
