Third working fire in less than a month - 12 Woodland Ave., Woodland Beach

At 1911 on 12/6 while members were at the station preparing for weekly truck clean-up,the CHC was dispatched for a reported working house fire in the Woodland Beach Community, the furthest most location of our district. Station 53, Leipsic, was also on the initial dispatch for a tanker company response. E 44-4 under command of 2nd Asst. Chief Isaac J. Willis, 44-17, went 10-8 within minutes. Upon his 10-2 he found a 2 1/2 story baloon construction style home with heavy fire showing from the front of the first floor, and the entire second floor. Crews advanced a 1 3/4 & 1 1/2 handline into the house quickly knocking down the fire on the first floor and advancing to the second. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down. Crews from 44-3 assisted in setting up water supply to T-44, then laddering the residence. The crew from R-44, and 53-5 ventilated the roof and performed secondary searches. The fire was placed 10-1 after about an hour, crews remained on scene for about another hour performing extensive overhaul. The house sustained heavy fire damage to the attic, second floor, and part of the first. There was also smoke and water damage throughout the entire house. 44-17 requested the American Red Cross for assistance to the residents. Sta. 44 units were in service for 2 hours, & 47 minutes, with 50 men in service. Units responding: E44-4, E 44-3, R-44, T-44, 44-10, T-53, & E 53-5, FM-19, DSP, and the Red Cross. OIC was 2nd Asst. Chief Isaac J. Willis.
