Ladder Company Assist Sta. 45 - 122 N. Bassett St., Clayton, DE

At 1201 Sta. 44 was alerted for a Ladder Co. assist Sta. 45 on a house fire on Bassett St. in Clayton. Ladder 44 under command of Past Chief Parsell, and E44-3 under command of 2nd Asst. Chief Hankins(44-17) both responded quickly. Upon arrival both units were assigned to assist with pulling siding off the exterior of the house and checking for extension. Crews pulled all the siding from around the meter panel, and main electric line into the house. The fire was found to be contained to a small portion of the wall on the exterior and in the insulation. Crews also cut all the powerlines coming into the house once the service was disconnected by the Town of Clayton Electric Dept. Sta. 44 crews were in service for 34 minutes, and had 23 members respond.

The fire was apparently caused when a contractor drilled into the wall, and struck the main power wires in the wall.
