2nd Working house fire with civilian injury this month ***New photos added*** - 5296 Wheatley's Pond Rd.

At 1703 Sta. 44 units, Amb. 64, & KM-6 were alerted for a working house fire with injuries in the 5200 Block of Wheatley's Pond Rd. E44-2 under command of Capt. Pappas, 44-18, responded within minutes shortly followed by L44, 44-3, T-44, R44, & 44-4. On arrival 44-18 reported heavy fire from the rear of a single story residence. Crews from E-2 quickly stretched 2 handlines to the rear of the structure and began attacking the fire. 44-15 arrived and assumed command and upon the arrival of other units, crews were assigned tasks of ventilation, assisting with suppresion, searches, placing ground ladders, and water supply. Crews were able to knock the bulk of the fire down quickly preventing it from spreading into the main living sections of the house. The rear porch area, and portions of the kitchen sustained heavy fire damage, with smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the residence. 44-15 placed the scene under control at 1738, and crews remained on scene performing overhaul and assisting FM-13 with lights for another 2 hours. All units were back in service at 1927. The scene was TOT the DSFMO for further investigation. One occupant was evaluated by EMS units and taken to KGH for treatment of smoke inhalation and minor burns. The American Red Cross was contacted and responded for assitance of the 3 adult residents of the house. CHC units were in service for 2 hours and 24 minutes, and 57 members responded to assist. OIC was Chief Tate Coulbourne. Units on-scene: E44-2, L44, E44-3, T44, R44, E44-4, 44-8, A-64, KM6, FM-13, DSP, SPD, & Town of Smyrna Electric & American Red Cross. Special thanks to Sta. 43 for providing an engine cover-up for the district while units were on scene.
