Thursday, April 12, 2012

At 0408 CHC units were dispatched to a reported trailer fire at 162 Hemlock Way in the Holly Hills mobile home community.  E44-2 under command of 16(Hankins) responded within minutes with a full crew.  Shortly followed by T-44, 44-3, L44, and R-44.  While en-route Kent Center advised that the RP called back a reported an active fire in the trailer, and a neighbor was attempting to put it out. E-2 arrived to find nothing showing at 162, and crews went to investigate.  While trying to obtain access, a neighbor came over and advised the fire was at a different trailer down the street.  44-16 redirected units, and 44-3 under command of 15(Willis) arrived at 152 Hemlock Way, and found a single wide trailer with light smoke showing.  Crews advanced a 1 1/2" handline to the back door, and while the line was being charged, crews found a small smoldering fire in a reclining chair.  The fire was quickly knocked down with a water can, and then crews came in and wet down a few more spots with the handline.  Crews from 44-2 performed a rapid primary and secondary search, and pulled the owners cat out of the residence and gave it O2 therapy in the front yard due to smoke inhalation.  Crews from R-44 assisted with ventialtion and overhaul.  While crews were working the resident of the trailer advised she was now feeling SOB, and ALS and BLS were requested to assist.  The owner was subsequently taken to KGH for smoke inhalation by A-64 & KM-6.  44-15(Willis) placed the scene under control at 0434 with all units working, and requested an FM unit.  The fire was contained to furniture and contents of the living room area, with smoke and heat damage throughout the entire trailer.  Crews remained on-scene to assist FM-19 with lighiting, and then finished overhaul after his investigation was complete.  All 44 units were back in quaters at 0531.
