44-4 Involved in an MVC

At 0324 crews from Citizens’ Hose Co. and American Legion Ambulance 64 were dispatched for a motor vehicle collision on Rt. 1 NB at Mill Creek. At 0342 while crews were actively working on the scene Engine 44-4 was struck in the left rear corner by another vehicle. Engine 4 had its emergency lights activated and was positioned, blocking the shoulder and right lane. The crew from Engine 44-4 reacted immediately and began to assess the driver of the other vehicle who was heavily trapped. Extra resources were then requested to the scene, Clayton Fire Co. and Kent County Medics assisted. The driver of the striking vehicle was extricated and transported to the ER with serious injuries. Engine 44-4 was occupied by the driver at the time and was uninjured. All other members of the crew were away from the truck at the time and also were uninjured. The incident is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
